J. LANKES [New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1924.]  LIMITED EDITION and Only edition in this format [See Crane A8].  One sheet of heavy rough handmade laid paper folded once vertically to make four 5 1/4" by 9" pages.  Lettered on the front cover with the title: "SEVERAL / SHORT POEMS / BY / ROBERT FROST" followed by a Woodcut Engraving of a turning stone beneath an apple tree with a scythe hanging from one of its branches, by the noted Artist and Illustrator, J. J. Lankes;  beneath the illustration is Robert Frost's poem "The Pasture." On page 2 is Robert Frost's poems "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "The Oven Bird" with "An Old Man's Winter Night" on page 3 with a small woodcut vignette of a tree by Julius John Lankes.  On the back cover is printed Frost's poems "The Runaway" and "Nothing Gold Can Stay" followed by the titles of five Books by Robert Frost. As stated in Crane, "Two thousand copies were printed in February 1924.  They were intended for distribution at lectures by Robert Frost at East Coast colleges."  The brochures were meant as Keepsakes for the students; however, so many of the students swamped the Poet after his lecture and asked him to Autograph their copies, that Robert Frost quickly discontinued distribution of the brochures, and most of the copies were probably destroyed.  There is a vertical crease down the center and foxing throughout to this 84-year-old pamphlet, but still an Acceptable Copy of this extremely rare Crane "A" item.  Additional pictures are available upon request.
