***ONE OF ONLY 150 LIMITED EDITION COPIES*** **FIRST APPEARANCE OF 8 NEW POEMS BY FROST** A REMEMBRANCE COLLECTION OF NEW POEMS BY ROBERT FROST NOW GATHERED TOGETHER AND PRINTED FOR THE DINNER HELD IN NEW YORK IN HONOR OF HIS EIGHTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY [New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1959.] LIMITED EDITION [Not in Crane]. White wove paper wrappers lettered in black on the front cover: "ROBERT FROST / MARCH 26, 1959" and illustrated in dark brown with a woodcut engraving by Thomas W. Nason, and stitched at the centerfold with white thread. 5 1/4" by 8 1/4". 8 pages. Beautifully illustrated with a Woodcut Engraving in dark brown of a fence post intertwined with vines on the front cover by the noted Artist and Illustrator, Thomas W. Nason; the woodcut engraving was originally cut for the title page of the First 1934 Illustrated Edition of Robert Frost's First Book of Poetry, A Boy's Will. As stated on the Colophon: ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY COPIES OF THIS BOOKLET WERE MADE BY HENRY HOLT AND COMPANY FOR THE FRIENDS OF ROBERT FROST WHO ATTENDED THE EIGHTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AT THE WALDORF-ASTORIA HOTEL IN NEW YORK. THE EDITION HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND PRINTED AT THE SPIRAL PRESS. THE WOOD ENGRAVING IS BY THOMAS NASON, ORIGINALLY CUT FOR THE TITLE PAGE OF A BOY'S WILL, 1934." THIS BOOKLET CONTAINS THE FIRST APPEARANCE OR FIRST PRINTING OF EIGHT NEW POEMS BY ROBERT FROST: "THE PROPHETS," "THE POET," "THE SAGE," "THE PREACHER," "THE ASTRONOMER," "LINES WRITTEN IN DEJECTION ON THE EVE OF SUCCESS," "THE PHILOSOPHER" AND "MARX AND ENGELS." A Near Fine Copy in nice, tight, clean and very collectible condition without any previous owners' bookplates or ink inscriptions or markings of any kind, in beautifully printed and illustrated wraps. Privately printed by Joseph Blumenthal at The Spiral Press, all 150 copies were distributed to friends of Robert Frost who attended the Poet's eighty-fifth birthday celebration, and no copies were for public sale; thus, an extremely scarce Crane "A" item and rare in this Near Fine condition.
