Description
***FAMOUS AUTOGRAPH POETIC QUOTE SIGNED BY ROBERT FROST*** "SOMETHING THERE IS THAT DOESN'T LOVE A WALL" FROM ROBERT FROST'S POEM "MENDING WALL" IN NORTH OF BOSTON BY ROBERT FROST New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1915.  First American Edition, Later 1915 Printing [See Crane A3.2].  Hardcover with dark gray-blue fine line cloth covers lettered and decorated in gold gilt on the front cover and spine.  5 1/4" by 7 3/4".  137 pages.  Robert Frost's Second Book of Poetry, North of Boston, contains 16 of Robert Frost's earliest and best poems, including "Mending Wall," "The Pasture," "The Death of the Hired Man," "Home Burial," "The Black Cottage," "Blueberries," "A Servant to Servants," "After Apple-Picking" and "The Wood-Pile."  Whereas Robert Frost's First Book of Poetry, A Boy's Will, brought Frost notice as a poet, it was this Second Book of Poetry, North of Boston, with Robert Frost's "Sound of Sense" theory of poetry, that established Frost's reputation as a First-Class Poet not only in England, but in America as well.  Robert Frost was awarded a record-breaking total of Four Pulitzer Prizes in Poetry for his poems.  THIS COPY CONTAINS A FAMOUS AUTOGRAPHED POETIC QUOTATION SIGNED BY THE POET AT THE TOP OF THE BLANK FRONT FREE ENDPAPER WITH HIS TYPICAL FOUNTAIN-PEN-AND-BLACK-INK SIGNATURE, AND IN HIS UNIQUE AND INIMITABLE HANDWRITING: "SOMETHING THERE IS THAT DOESNT LOVE A WALL." "ROBERT FROST" The poetic quotation is from the First Line of one of Robert Frost's most famous and popular poems, "Mending Wall," which is the very first poem on page 11 of this book.  There are two differences in punctuation between this handwritten quote and the printed line as it appears in the book:  Frost has omitted the apostrophe in the contraction "doesn't" and the line as it appears in the book ends with a comma rather than a period. Covers slightly worn and darkened around the edges, previous owner's bookplate neatly pasted to the inside front cover, and eight check marks next to the titles of poems in the Table of Contents, else a Very Good Autographed Copy of Robert Frost's Most Important Book of Poetry with a Famous Poetic Quotation Signed by Robert Frost.  Additional pictures are available upon request. Buyer pays $25.00 for Register Priority Mail including Postal Insurance and Signature Delivery Confirmation in the U.S.  PLEAST NOTE that the dark spot or shadow shown in the picture is from my scanner, and that the page itself with the quotation is nice and white and bright and clean.   I personally find this particular poetic quotation by Frost very interesting since it contradicts one of the most common errors or myths about Robert Frost:  that it was Robert Frost who said, "Good fences make good neighbors."  I think most people believe that, because of this line, Robert Frost is in favor of fences or stone walls or barriers.  However, nothing could be further from the truth.  It is not Robert Frost who utters the line in the poem, but Frost's neighbor who says, "Good fences make good neighbors."  Frost, on the other hand, clearly states his opposition to fences or walls or barriers in the very first line of the poem when he says, "Something there is that doesn't love a wall."  Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
